Assistant Professor, tenure-track, effective September 1, 1994
subject to budgetary approval. Qualifications: Ph.D in
Linguistics with primary specialization in sociolinguistics,
secondary specialization in historical linguistics. Interest in
non-Indo-European language would be an asset. Teaching and
research should be informed by some current generative grammatical
theory with a focus on formal constraint on code switching, language
variation and/or language change. The candidate will be expected
to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in these areas. Research
guidance and departmental responsibilities. Demonstrated excellence
in teaching and research in the field of specialization is required.
Salary: McGill scale. Deadline for applications: January 15, 1994.

 LECTURER IN LINGUISTICS
 (Tenurable - commencing early February 1994)

The appointee will be expected to lecture in one of the following core areas:
 Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax and Semantics, plus another area such as
 Sociolinguistics.

Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant area of Linguistics and have
 tertiary teaching experience and a demonstrated capacity for research.

A fixed term position may become available also. Applicants should indicate
 whether they are interested in the tenurable position only, or also in a fixed
 term position.

Duty Statement

The Department of English at Miyagi Gakuin Women's College (Sendai, Japan)
invites a visiting professor for a one-year position starting April/May 1993. An
appointee will be expected to contribute to the teaching of English conversation
 and linguistics at undergraduate level. Preference may be given to candidates
 with specialization in L2 acquistion or theoretical linguistics. Salary is
$48,000 --- $90,000 with research fund. An appointee must have an affiliation
 in his/her country. The closing date for application is 30 September 1993.
