THE FOLLOWING WAS DISTRIBUTED TO THE SIGN LANGUAGE LINGUISTICS LIST "SLLING". The name at the bottom was the immediate sender; the one at the top (Mark Kille) was in the forwarding path, which I have deleted. I have no further information on this report. Mark A. The administration is being less than open about the reasons for this (disastrous) move. Myself and the other undergrad linguistics students are going to do what we can to fight, but it looks pretty hopeless... Still, if anyone out there has any suggestions (such as possibly sympathetic organizations to contact, information about how other colleges have handled similar situations, etc.), they would be greatly appreciated. Making noise over the net or other appropriate places would be wonderful, too. Thanks a lot, in advance. Aaron J. I just received this rather disturbing message from a friend of mine on the SLA list. As an alum I'm particularly moved--as a linguist, I'm saddened to see that yet another school is considering breaking up a linguistics dept. What do y'all think? (And what's the deal with Yale, these days?) --David Silva ************************************************** Date: Tue, 5 Oct 1993 01:43:21 GMT From: Mark Kille <mkilleMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issueHUSC11.HARVARD.EDU> Subject: Harvard to dissolve linguistics dept.
