I AM seeking information on good linguistic departments and libraries in south / eastern France . I am going to spend three months near Aubenas in the Ardeche writing up my doctorate - and I would feel more secure if I thought I had access to a decent library for spoken discourse analysis / genre analysis / functional and systemic linguistics. If anyone knows of such a place and my chance of getting access as a researching staff member of a British university - then I would like to hear from you. I am trying to find out how many words of the type
[V +stress]{t,d}[V]
there are in English. (I believe this is the environment in which
some dialects of English flap the /t/ and /d/.) Some examples are
"rider", "writer", "lady". I don't have access to a computer word
list of English, but I am not aware of any that would mark stressed
syllables anyway.
I doubt whether this is of general interest, so I probably won't post
the responses unless I hear otherwise.

I've heard about a prosody discussion list. Could someone tell me how I can subscribe to it?Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
A friend of mine is doing a project on the phonetics of the conversational speech of gay men. He is, however, having problems finding any previous published work on the subject. If anyone knows any references (however obscure, however short) could they please E-Mail me the details. Many thanks, Stu.
