HISTORY OF LING
Karttunen, Fran. Between Worlds: Interpreters, Guides and Survivors.
Rutgers University Press, 1994
The book considers the lives and careers of sixteen individuals, women
and men, who served explorers, military, missionaries, linguists and
anthropologists as interpreters/translators. It raises the problems and
issues of these relationships. The book has been announced in the
newsletter of the Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages
of the Americas. It is offered as an alternate by the History
Book Club.
