The Department of Linguistics, Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University invites applications for a one-year replacement position, pending approval by the Provost, in general linguistics and African languages for Spring (January-May) and Fall (August-December) semesters, 1995. Ph.D. or ABD in linguistics and college-level teaching experience required. Duties include teaching introductory courses in linguistics (with some possibility of offering a course in the applicantUs area of specialization), teaching Swahili (with the possibility of teaching at different levels or offering another African language), and overseeing graduate assistants in the DepartmentUs African languages program. The appointment will be made before the LSA Winter Meeting. THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH, Department of Languages and Literature, in cooperation with the Middle East Center, seeks applicants for a Tenure-Track Position in Persian at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning September 1995. Complete fluency in Persian is required. Specialization desired in Persian language pedagogy or applied Persian linguistics with other areas of competence relating to Iranian languages, culture, and civilization and/or linguistics. Experience in teaching Persian at the college/university level is highly desirable. A primary responsibility will be the overall direction and development of the Persian language program, including teaching and TA supervision. Ph.D. required by time of appointment. The Linguistics Program and the Department of Languages and Literature at the University of Utah invite applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level beginning September 1995. Applicants should have obtained the Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or a related field by September 1995 and have a strong research interest in ESL/bilingual education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the public schools. Ability to offer courses in L2 teacher education, bilingualism, and language and literacy in education desireable. Near native proficiency in a language other than English required, Spanish preferred.
