 CALL FOR PAPERS

THE EVOLVING DESIGN OF COMPUTER-ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING

 Parasession of

The 9th Annual International Conference on
 Pragmatics & Language Learning

2 March 1995 Urbana, Illinois, USA

************************************************************************

Recently, growth in the use of multimedia materials, resurgent concern
with the lexicon, renewed interest in parsing and in corpus and text
analysis, as well as better techniques for on-line collection and analysis
of performance data, have begun to significantly alter the traditional
design of CALL materials. The aim of this conference is to get some
perspective on these new design directions.

We invite presentations exploring any aspects of instructional design in
CALL in relation to these emerging new directions. Of particular interest
are presentations which

**** Demonstrate new directions in CALL design.

**** Explore the way in which theoretical and applied linguistics,
cognitive science, second language acquisition research, and
similar areas are affecting the design of CALL materials.

**** Investigate the relationship between CALL and pragmatics.

To propose a 30 or 45 minute presentation, submit a 250-word abstract to

 Prof. Robert S. Hart,
 UI/UC Language Learning Laboratory,
 G70 Foreign Languages Building,
 707 S. Mathews Ave., Urbana, IL 61801
 (internet: hartux1.cso.uiuc.edu)
 (fax: 217-244-0190)
 (voice: 217-333-9072).

Provide your address, telephone and FAX number, and email address. Include
equipment requests on a separate page. Proposers are encouraged to submit
abstracts by email. For additional information, contact the above address.

The 9th Annual Pragmatics Conference will take place on 2-4 March 1995;
