Since many readers of this list knew John Hinds, I am posting this message
because you may not have heard the sad news: John returned home to Amherst
last May knowing that he had advanced pancreatic cancer. Although he was
planning to go back to Nagoya to teach this Fall, that was not possible.
His health deteriorated over the summer. It is with deep sadness that I
let you know that John died on Sept 27th, 1994 in Amherst. In keeping with
John's wishes, there was no public funeral. Those of us who were his
students, colleagues, friends, and admirers will miss him.
