I just saw a new program on PBS (Public Broadcasting System) will be aired again on Sunday at 6:00 pm in this area (Pittsburgh.) Try to see it. Also, the video program is available for $19.95 (+S&H) from 1-800-255 9424. The Title of the Program is SECRET OF THE WILD CHILD. It is very well done and I think it presents a fair, balanced view. It is also likely to start a new round of discussion about the controversial aspects of the research process. For The LINGUIST List: The IDS is designed to help preserve information on languages which are becoming extinct. The WordList (adapted from C.D. Buck) contains 1310 entries; it is in a Macintosh HyperCard program, in a format which makes it possible to MERGE any two or more words from the list from any two or more languages around the world. I urge readers of LINGUIST to participate. If you can fill out a WordList, please contact me.
