You need to include the rest of the sentence -- "You're the linguist -- you
talk to him!" And eventually he does, of course.

(I should say that other than a few gems like the ones Bob Ingria notes,
and a nifty-looking Jaye Davidson, the movie is really pretty boring.)

Having followed the debate on what we should call ourselves with some
interest, I thought the list might like to know that the word for
linguist in Finnish MIGHT literally be translated as "tongue
investigator" and that the word for translator comes out literally as
