I'm am posting this for one of my fellow students, who is not on
the list.
She is doing a study of the words of family relations in
different languages of the world. This will include which relation
words exist (father, mother, grandchild etc.) and what the
biological/psycological/social relation is between persons
caracterised by these words.
Please mail directly to my adress with suggestions for litteratur
in english or any of the scandinavian languages.

 Thanks, Sebastian A. Dyhr.

We are looking for diverse articles concerning discursive and acoustic analysis
of indications of surprise that are produced spontaneously during conversations
Our goal is to determine whether the various types of indication of surprise
have distinctive acoustical characteristics.
Thank you

Hello,

I have been asked by the (administrative) powers that be to identify - and
I translate from Dutch - "the crucial issues and domains of investigation
in contemporary linguistic research" and "the most important trends and
developments that will determine the research agenda of linguistics in the
(near) future" (no further specifications given).
Now, this list is the very proof that current research in the field of
linguistics is rich, prolific and diverse to the extreme (I'd nearly
written 'fragmented'). I guess no one would/could claim to be sufficiently
conversant with all lines of current linguistic research to provide a
balanced answer to these questions (I, for one, wouldn't). Therefore, I'd
appreciate to hear other people's opinions.
I will, of course, summarize for the list.
Thanks very much in advance.

Alex Housen

What's a good source for Korean fonts for the Macintosh? I've heard that
_Linguist Software_ may be one company that sells them, anyone have an
address or phone number?
