POSITION AVAILABLE GMD-KONTEXT, the Natural Language Research and Development Unit of The Gesellschaft fuer Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung mbH Darmstadt, Germany invites applications for a two-year position in the TELEX project. The TELEX-project is a cooperation project with the Humboldt-University, Berlin (Prof. Kunze). It is the goal of the project to make the theory of Semantic Emphasis [Kunze 91] available for various purposes of lexicography and natural language processing. For this purpose a reusable lexical database is being developed where selected meaning fields of the German vocabulary are described and structured in accordance with the theory. For modelling an object-oriented database is used. The applicability of the lexical database is shown prototypically in the KONTEXT text analysis system. The text analysis system is based on a graph unification formalism (the Context Feature Structure System). Applicants should have - a degree in computer science and/or computational linguistics - expertise in at least one of the following areas: - knowledge representation - object oriented database systems - graph unification formalisms - text analysis - programming experience in Prolog and C++. Fluent command of written and spoken German is required.
