I just received a note from a person who asked if there wasn't some COSWL (the Committee on the Status of Women in Linguistics) event for Thursday evening at the LSA? She hadn't seen it in the preliminary program. (This is because the Exec. Committee puts only the activities refereed papers and colloquia in the prelimary program.) YES, indeed,on Thursday evening at 7:30, COSWL will be hosting a specially invited speaker, Shulamit Reinharz, Professor and Director of Women's Studies at Brandeis, author of an award-winning book _Feminist Methods in Social Research_, Oxford UP, 1992. She will speak on "The Impact of Feminist Research on the Social Sciences." A discussion period will follow. An open COSWL business meeting will follow from 8:30-9:00. All LSA members and friends are invited. >From 9-10 pm, there will be a COSWL-sponsored "tea," again open to all the LSA. We hope you can come to all or part of the evening. For all of those interested in the formation of a caucus for those interested in issues for women, I know that Birch Moonwomon has been working on this. Stay tuned for posters or info at the LSA (and if she wants to make an announcement at the COSWL meeting, I will have space for her on our agenda). Hope to see you in Boston!
