March 7, 1994 Dear Colleagues: NACCL VI has sent out via regular mail the conference information package, including conference schedule, registration, transportation, lodging and maps to the colleagues that submitted their abstract. If you do not receive one and would like to have one, please just let us know and we will send you a copy immediately. NACCL VI will take place from the morning of May 13 to around 1:00 p.m. of May 15 on the USC main campus. The two and a half day conference presents 65 papers by researchers from around the world and features the following invited speakers: Robert Cheng (U of Hawaii), Tom Ernst (U of Delaware), Tom Lee (Chinese U Hong Kong), Ya-fei Li (U of Wisconsin), Yen-Hwei Lin (Michigan State U), Jerry Norman (U of Washington), J. Tai & M. Chan (Ohio State U, co-presenter), Ovid Tzeng (Chung Cheng U, Taiwan and UC Riverside). It is sponsored by the Education Ministry in Taiwan, the Coordination Council for North American Affairs, National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan (Center for Cognitive Science Studies) and USC (Humanities Dean's Office, East Asian Studies Center, Dept of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Linguistics). USC campus housing on campus; 3-minute walking distance to the conference site Fluor Tower has been reserved for the participants of this conference. It is an air-conditioned suite-style residence hall located on the west side of the USC campus. Each suite is comprised of common living area with a sink, refrigerator and dinette set. There are four bedrooms in each suite with two twin beds, two desks and chairs, two closets and carpet and drapes. Each bedroom has its own air-conditioning unit and there is a separate one in the common area. The suite bathroom contains two sinks, two showers and two commodes. The lobby has two pool tables and a TV and there is a small lounge on each floor of the building. All rooms are supplied with soap, cups, blankets, pillows and linens and towels. Rates: $33.10/person/night-single occupancy (one person/bedroom) $21.70/person/night-double occupancy (two persons/bedroom) If you decide to stay at the campus housing, please make arrangement with the NACCL organizing committee directly: send a check/money order (international participants please send money order or cashier's check) for the full amount for your stay (the rate times the nights you are staying), payable to NACCL, for it to arrive at USC by April 10. Our earlier experience with the mailing of the abstracts suggested that you should send out your reservation by the end of March (domestic) or 3 weeks before the deadline (by March 20, international) in order for us to receive your mail by April 10. Please allow even more extra time if the mailing crosses holidays. For the participants who plan to stay at the campus housing, please just add the early registration fee $20 to your room charge. Please remember the absolute deadline for reservation for the campus housing is April 10. If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact us.
