Preliminary Call for Participation and Papers Workshop: Language Engineering on the Information Highway September 26-30 1994 Island of Santorini, Greece The Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) Athens, Greece and Sprakdata, Department of Swedish, University of Gotheborg, Sweden, are organising a workshop, to be held on the breathtaking volcanic Aegean island of Santorini on September 26 - 30 1994. The organisers wish to establish and maintain an open working channel that spans the geographical latitude of Europe (EFTA, EU), and the international arena. The objectives of the workshop are: - to bring together in a relaxed, informal environment interested parties from the academia, industry, administration and user-market in order to present and exchange views, research results, products and needs and to assess the overall contributions to the area of Language Engineering in sight of the imminent developments in the are of Information Technology. - to pin-point areas that need to be focused upon in future actions and to establish input for policy makers. - to establish working contacts among people with common interests world-wide. - to detect international trends in the field at the research, development and market levels. The workshop will be organised as an informal event where discussions, presentations, panels and exhibitions will be held in a majestic setting, combining the impetus new technology brings, with the age old history and culture the island of Santorini offers to the ever inquisitive mind. Participants are also welcome to contribute by poster session or demonstration of their work. Half-board accommodation, (5 nights), registration fees and proceedings are inclusive in the attractive price of approximately $600 US per participant. This price also includes coffee breaks, lunch, welcoming reception and gala dinner. The workshop site and first class accomodation will provided on Santorini. Transfer from the port or airport are provided free of charge. Due to rooming restrictions participation will be limited to a first-come, first-serve basis.
