pending administrative approval. Position available October 1994 or
possibly later. PhD preferred. Salary approx. $15,000, funded by an
Israel National Science Foundation research grant. The topic of the grant

 Lectureship in Linguistics

(1) Qualifications and duties: The Appointee will be expected to teach,
 research and undertake supervision in the Linguistics section of the
 English Department. Applicants should possess a PhD degree and
 preferably have a number of publications. Preference is for a
 candidate who combines expertise in one or more areas of linguistic
 theory (morphology, syntax, semantics, phonology) with a demonstrated
 interest in or commitment to develop a program of empirical research in
 an area of linguistics relevant to language in Australia. Ability to
 teach in some area of applied linguistics would also be an advantage.

(2) Salary: An appointment will be made at a suitable point on the Lecturer
 B salary scale, currently $A41,574-49,370.

(3) Date of taking up duty: It is hoped that the successful applicant will
 be able to take up duty by January 1995.

(4) Period of Appointment: Tenure track.

Details of Application

An application should contain a full statement of the applicant's
qualifications and career. In addition applicants should complete the summary
application form provided, quoting the reference number and title of the
position applied for.

An applicant should state the names and full addresses of three referees,
including if possible a senior responsible person (such as the head of his/her
university department) closely associated with his/her current work. Such a
report will be sought before a person is appointed.

The person offered the position will be required to provide a medical report
by a medical practitioner which is acceptable to the University.
