Stellenbosch, South Africa. The theme of the conference will be

"Contemporary Issues in African Linguistics and Literature"

Participants are requested to submit presentations reflecting on prevalent
issues within the study of linguistics, literature and language teaching in
African languages in the broadest sense.

In order to focus sharply on the conference theme, a number of optional
pre-conference seminars will also be presented. These seminars will take
place on 10 and 11 July 1995, and will each comprise a 12-14 hour course on a
specific topic to be announced in the second and final call for papers. Each
seminar will aim at presenting

field. (Fields: African literature; African linguistics; The teaching of
African languages.)
Only a limited number of participants will be allowed to these seminars on a
first come, first serve basis.

Proposals are now awaited for

(ii) the organization and presentation of a 2 hour workshop.

Potential speakers are requested to submit a typed two (2) page SUMMARY of
the paper with enough detail to ensure acceptance after adjudication, before
or on 15 MARCH 1995. Successful applicants will be notified early in April
1995 and will then be requested to submit a CAMERA READY ABSTRACT for
publication purposes. The FINAL DATE for enrollment to the conference is 30
 MAY 1995.
Accomodation will be available in university student residences, guest
