Position: Sr. Engineer I/II Description 1. (Primary role): Technical liaison between Caterpillar Inc.and the project teams at CGI (Carnegie Group Inc.) and the CMT (Center for Machine Translation at Carnegie Mellon University) for the ongoing automated machine translation project at Caterpillar, including: a. observation and communication of issues that arise in daily use of the system b. assistance in tracking down bugs in the system and the linguistic software that are identified c. participation in internal Caterpillar design meetings and other discussions concerning the larger context of the machine translation system, giving input on potential impacts or requirements relating to the MT software. 2. (Secondary role): Technical sales support for Caterpillar, including: a. identification of additional work related to the project within Caterpillar that CGI is qualified to perform and for which our involvement would assist Cat to meet its goals b. identification of other such work, unrelated to the current project, within Caterpillar c. customer interaction to create initial high-level requirements d. creation of proposals to perform appropriate work e. collaboration with remainder of sales team throughout sales process Requires frequent travel with majority (~50-75%) of time being spent at customer site in Peoria. Required skills - Requirements analysis - High-level design - Linguistic/grammatical analysis - Good verbal communication skills in one-on-one interaction and small group discussions and presentations - Good written skills, including high level of comfort with language use and structure - Good customer interaction/presentability - High personal productivity without direct supervision - Work effectively as a team member - C programming - Unix systems Desirable skills - Familiarity with SGML-based documentation products and philosophy - Familiarity with knowledge-based systems - Familiarity with natural language processing Education/Experience - B.S., or preferably M.S., in Computer Science, Linguistics, Computational Linguistics or related field - 5+ years experience in requirements/analysis work - demonstrated successful customer interactions Screening for this position has begun and will continue until a qualified candidate is found.
