Subject: Milwaukee conference postponed

This is regarding the Conference on Functionalism and Formalims in
Linguistics earlier announced to take place April 6-8 l995 at the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. We have been notified that our
grant proposal submitted to the National Endowment for the
Humanities has been turned down. Since local funds available at
our university would support only a small subset of the
extensive roster of speakers we have invited, we have decided to
postpone the meeting by a year. The new date is April 4-6 (Thursday
through Saturday) l996, at which time we will be prepared to put on
the conference whether our revised grant proposal is successful or
not. A new call for papers will be announced in a few months, with
the deadline for abstracts November 17 l995.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We are in the process of sending
individual notifications to the invited speakers informing them
of this change and abstracts already submitted to us are being
 returned to their authors.
