(London)/Stockton Press (New York) is considering publishing, in both book and CD ROM formats, a comprehensive reference work that will examine the different varieties of English as they are spoken throughout the world. We would like to conduct a survey to help us assess the linguistic community's views of such a work, and would be interested in hearing from individuals with an interest in this subject area, who would be willing to complete a survey. It is not clear to me whether it is an allophone of [g] or of [x]. Any information or references would be greatly appreciated. Wendi Klafter Halstead wendi
