University of Southern California: College of Letters, Arts & Sciences Director of the Language Center The College of Letters, Arts and Sciences of the University of Southern California seeks applicants and nominations for the position of Director of its Language Center. We seek a director with a strong background in second language acquisition and teaching, and a knowledge of new technologies and resources in the field. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. The Director must work well with the Council of Language Directors and faculty and manage a staff of full-time employees and part-time student workers. The Director will report to the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction and will direct the day-to-day activities of the Language Center. In addition, the Director will work closely with the Council of Language Directors to coordinate the programs of the language departments and facilitate the planning and implementation of new course offerings and other language-learning activities. The Director will also plan for instruction in languages not currently taught at USC, develop intensive summer programs in these and other languages, and promote these programs to prospective communities of students. The Director will be responsible for some of the training of language teachers, including teaching assistants, especially in the area of current technology. He/she must be able to write grant proposals and administer grants as the need arises. The position of Director of the Language Center offers a competitive salary and benefits.
