Faculty Position, Toyama Prefectural University

Toyama Prefectural University, Toyama, Japan, is seeking a
qualified candidate for teaching English to undergraduate
students in the Faculty of Engineering.

Qualifications and requirements:
1. Is a native speaker of English.
2. (a) Has a Ph. D. or its equivalent preferably in TESOL or
 Applied Linguistics, but areas such as Linguistics, Communication,
 and English Literature are also acceptable.
 OR
 (b) Has a Master's Degree in one of the above mentioned areas,
 AND has experience teaching full-time at university level.
3. Has at least 3 published articles.
4. Has a strong commitment to high quality teaching and research.
5. Better if the person can speak, or at least understand, everyday
 Japanese.

Responsibilities:
1. Teaching 5 classes a week (4 English classes plus 1 'First-Year
 Seminar').
2. Faculty and Department meetings.
3. Preparation of English tests for the annual Entrance
 Examination.

Faculty position:
1. begins on April 1, 1996.
2. will be tenure-track.
3. will either be Associate Professor or Lecturer depending
 on the person's qualifications and experience

Other information:
1. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
2. Accommodation (non-furnished) will be arranged and subsidized
by the university.

TOHOKU UNIVERSITY, Japan. The International Student Center invites
applications for a Kyoju (equivalent to Professor). Primary reponsibility:
Teaching Japanese to international students. Specialty: Japanese Linguistics,
Japanese Pedagogy or Linguistics. Near-native competency in Japanese
required. Ph.D. holder preferred. Send the following documents, enclosed in
an envelope with "Kyokan Kobo" written on it IN RED, by registered mail to:

1) a vita (in Japanese or English)
2) a proof of the highest academic degree obtained
3) a list of teaching experience stating the types of classes with a brief
 summary of their syllabuses included (in Japanese or English)
4) a list of publications and conference presentations (in Japanese or English)
5) 5 major scholarly publications (photocopies or offprints acceptable),
 each accompanied by a summary of approx. 200 Japanese character length
 (or its equivalent in English)
6) an essay in Japanese, approx. 2000 character length, stating your interest
 in teaching international students, on the basis of your own cross-cultural
 experience and your experience in teaching Japanese
7) 2 letters of recommendation (in Japanese or English)
