1. The LINGUIST List, LINGUIST on vacation

All but one member of the LINGUIST staff will be on vacation 
next week. In addition, new software is being installed on our 
main editing computer, and the system will be unavailable for
long periods over the next week. As a result, we've decided to
close down LINGUIST from Monday, Aug. 26 through Thursday, Sept. 5.

We will be posting as usual from now through Saturday, August 24.
On Sunday and Monday, Aug. 25-26, only one editor will be working,
so we will post only urgent messages, e.g., calls for papers with 
upcoming deadlines. If your message is one of these, please put
"Urgent" in the subject line, so the editor won't miss it.

We will be back in full operation on Sept. 6. In the
meantime, we appreciate your cooperation with this necessary 
interruption.
