I asked how to overstrike diacritics and IPA characters in Word 6 for Windows. After posting the Q, I figured out the following way: Type the diacritic and IPA symbol (via "Insert --> Symbol", then select the WP Phonetic set) Place cursor between diacritic and IPA symbol Insert (On tool bar) Field Advance \l 6 (This moves following character to the left 6 points (6/72")) All these steps can be included in a macro that can be assigned to a Ctrl + key combination. To see the diacritic more clearly, reduce the symbol size by a point, a step that can be put into the macro. The only drawback I've found is that the value of the leftward displacement depends on the point size. 6 works only with the standard 12 points.
