Two meetings on Chinese dialectology, comprising 18 papers, will take place in mid-March of this year, in Philadelphia. One is the Yuen Ren Society Conference on Fresh Dialect Fieldwork, meeting on 17 March in the afternoon. There will be eight half-hour papers presenting either material from hitherto undescribed Chinese dialects, or new material from known dialects. The other is two panels at the 206th meeting of the American Oriental Society, meeting on the afternoon of 18 March and the morning of 19 March. There will be ten fifteen-minute papers, six of which deal with dialect classification and four of which deal with dialect phonology. The Yuen Ren Society for the Promotion of Chinese Dialect Fieldwork is a loose group of fieldworkers and descriptive linguists specializing in Chinese dialects. We hold an annual meeting, sponsor panels at other meetings, and publish an occasional journal that is *filled* with interesting data.
