Dear linguists, I am collecting data about passive expletive constructions like (1) in languages other than English/Icelandic/Scandinavian. (1) a. *There has a book been put on the table. b. There has been a book put on the table. c. *There has been put a book on the table. Is there anyone who knows some languages which behaves exactly like English? If there is enough response, I will post the summary on the list. Thanks. Dear Linguists, I put the following request to you on behalf of Dr. Teubert, Institut fuer deutsche Sprache, Mannheim: For research purposes we would need access to text corpora of present day American English (e.g., ACL/DCI, Penn Tree- bank or other). We know of the online service of LDC but since we only need it for a very limited period of time it would be useful to learn if anyone knows of sources that are freely available, or can give us access to them. We are gra- teful for any suggestions and help that you can give on this matter. Thank you very much for your assistance. I'm beginning work on my diss. and am looking for any natural spoken data from gay and/or lesbian speakers. Ideally I would like conversations involving gay and lesbian couples, but settle for whatever is available. Can you help me with this? Thanks!
