The Dean is responsible directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for matters related to graduate education, including the operations of the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies, and must work collegially and effectively with the other deans, the Vice Provost for Research, the graduate faculty, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. This appointment will be restricted to qualified individuals who are currently members of the UNT faculty, and will be effective as soon as possible. Candidates must hold the rank of Professor by the end of the 1996-1997 academic year and appointment in Category III of the Graduate Faculty. They must have a full understanding of the comprehensive nature of the university and the diversity of its graduate programs. Experience in graduate programs, including the directing of dissertations and theses, is strongly preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate capabilities to: represent and promote the interests, quality, and integrity of graduate education and advanced study both within and outside the University; assist in the development of new graduate programs, the review of existing programs, and the successful marketing of graduate programs to new audiences, especially through distance education; promote and secure additional student financial support, especially at the doctoral level, in collaboration with programs; develop and support appropriate student recruiting activities at the graduate school and program levels; and supervise and manage extensive record-keeping and processing functions. Applications and nominations should be forwarded to Dr. John Todd, Chair of the Search Committee, at the Office of the Provost. Applications should consist of a current curriculum vitae and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three references. Review of applications will begin on October 15th and applications will be received until the position is filled. DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR LANGUAGE ACQUISITION Tenurability as Professor or advanced Associate Professor in any of the degree-carrying languages at Penn State (i.e. French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Italian), but with a preference for one of the first three. Presumed specialty in second language acquisition theory/applied linguistics and computer-assisted instruction. Ph.D., strong record of publications appropriate to rank, evidence of teaching effectiveness, native or near-native proficiency in English and one target language, and experience working with computer-assisted language learning required. Willingness to teach at graduate and undergraduate levels expected. Some administrative experience preferred. Applications received by November 29, 1996 will be assured of consideration.
