For the past year the Language Technology Group at Edinrbugh's Human Communication Research Centre has been running a helpdesk for natural language engineering software (http://www.ltg.hcrc.ed.ac.uk/helpdesk). We have now compiled a list of the most frequently asked, or otherwise interesting, questions and answers. It is available at http://www.ltg.hcrc.ed.ac.uk/helpdesk/faq Corrections to the answers and other comments are welcome at Language.Software.HelpdeskMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issueed.ac.uk or via the other contact addresses given on the helpdesk and FAQ pages.
The language conference list located on the WWW at URL http://www.clark.net/pub/royfc/confer.html has been updated with over 90 new conferences since the 11 September 1996 edition. The list includes conferences for anyone interested in any aspect of natural language: linguists, translators, interpreters, teachers of languages (even one's own native language to native speakers, such as English in American high schools), those who are involved in natural language processing, et al.
