**************************Please Post********************************* ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PROPOSALS THE LINGUISTICS PROGRAM AT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES THE THIRD ANNUAL CREOLE LANGUAGE WORKSHOP This year's theme is: 'EMPOWERING CREOLES: DEVELOPING PEDAGOGICAL MATERIALS IN AND ON CREOLES' Keynote Speaker: Dr Loreto Todd March 19 - 23, 1997 ________________________________________________________________________ The Annual Creole Language Workshops continue to provide an opportunity for public school educators and administrators, university faculty and students, creolists, and members of the community to come together to exchange views and address issues and concerns of creole languge use in an urban setting, with particular emphasis on the educational system. The THIRD ANNUAL CREOLE LANGUAGE WORKSHOP will include the keynote address, to be delivered by Dr. Loreto Todd, lectures by invited speakers, panel discussions and several workshops on a variety of creole languages. A call for additional papers is being solicited. Individuals or panel proposals are being accepted on the theme, 'Empowering Creoles: Developing Pedagogical Materials In and On Creoles'. Thank you. - ----------------------------------------------------------- The Ninth North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics will be held May 2-4, 1997 at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada CALL FOR PAPERS (Please Post) Deadline for abstract submission: Nov. 15, 1996 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks on all aspects of Chinese linguistics using any theoretical framework. The abstract should be typed on one page of 8.5" by 11" letter-sized paper using a size 12 font (for English). A second page may be used only if references and/or brief examples are included. Abstracts will be anonymously reviewed. Notification of acceptance along with a preliminary program will be sent through email or snail mail (where email is not available) by February 15, 1997. Registration fee is $60 Canadian Dollars ($45 US) before April 1, 1997, and $70 ($52 US) after. Languages for the conference are English and Mandarin Chinese.
