NEW ZEALAND LANGUAGE AND SOCIETY CONFERENCE, 21-23 JUNE 1996 FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT The Department of Linguistics at the University of Canterbury, as the hosts of this year's New Zealand Language and Society Conference, is happy to announce that the conference will be held June 21-23 in Christchurch. The general call for papers and information on accommodation and arrangements will be sent out soon. If you are interested in further information, in attending the conference, or in presenting a paper at it, please let us know. Your response will place you on the mailing list for the first flier and for later communications. If you intend to submit an abstract and are able to at this point, could you also send us a tentative title. Finally, in your response, could you please indicate whether you prefer future communications via e-mail or normal postage. The final deadline for submission of abstracts is April 15.
