The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics has two sets of positions available for research in the field of First Language Acquisition. 1. Two PhD positions to study the acquisition of either argument structure or scope. Payment is regulated according to the scale of the Max Planck Society (net appr. 2500 DFL per month). Only Dutch or German citizens can be considered. A completed Master's degree or equivalent in linguistics, psychology, or a related field, as well as an interest in language acquisition, are required. Previous research in argument structure or scope is not necessary. 2. One postdoctoral or PhD position to study the acquisition of scope. Payment is regulated according to the scale of the Max Planck Society (net appr. 2500 DFL per month for PhD position, net appr. 6000-6500 DFL per month for postdoctoral position). A completed Master's (or equivalent) or PhD degree in linguistics, psychology, or a related field, as well as an interest in language acquisition, are required. Citizenship is open. Previous research in scope is not necessary. All positions will be for three years, and will begin as soon as possible but no later than October 1, 1996. Research Position in Natural Langugae Processing Institut d'Informatique Universite de Fribourg Suisse (Switzerland) The Institute is seeking a researcher to work in an european community research project in applied computational linguistics. The researcher will participate in the construction of the French prototype of a language processing system. The duration of the position is a year. The position is available from 1st March 1996. Applicants should have a master degree in Computational Linguisitics or a bachelor degree in Computer Science or Linguistics, with experience in Natural Language Processing. Experience with statistical NLP will be an advantage. Programming experience in C and Prolog under unix environment is required. In-depth knowledge of the French language and competence in communicating in English are essential.
