Studentships Available NOW <<<= The Department of Linguistics invites applicants with good Honours degrees (or the equivalent) in linguistics or any related area (computer science, engineering, a modern language, English language, psychology, philosophy) who are RESIDENTS OF ANY EC COUNTRY to apply for admission as Ph.D. students. With its Centre for Speech Technology Research, the Department of Linguistics has 4 Ph.D. Studentships in its gift and is eligible to apply for further studentships. Studentships awarded to CSTR/Linguistics 1 BT studentship - to work at CSTR on low level intonational modelling for speech synthesis 1 EPSRC Project Studentship - to work on a CSTR/Linguistics project investigating duration processing in a speech recognition system: N.B. startdate on or before July 1. 2 EPSRC Quota Research Studentships - one to work at CSTR on any area related to speech technology; the other to work in the Dept of Linguistics on any area of linguistics (phonetics/phonology/syntax/semantics/psycholinguistics) with potential importance for science/engineering applications Studentships for which the department is a recognized outlet, and which are allocated in annual competitions: ESRC Research Studentships - for work on applied aspects of psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, sociolinguistics; on interdisciplinary topics including linguistics; on empirical methodologies British Academy Research Studentships - for work on linguistic theory, philosophy of language, semantics, pragmatics, textual analysis, language description/typology, comparative/historical linguistics APPLICANTS WHO ARE NOT EC RESIDENTS may be eligible for Edinburgh University Studentships.
