There are seven grants available at the

INSTITUTE FOR LOGIC, LANGUAGE, AND COMPUTATION

ILLC is a research institute of the University
of Amsterdam based in the Department of Mathematics,
Computer Science, Physics, and Astronomy (WINS), the Department
of Philosophy (FdW), and the Department of Arts (FdL).

ILLC invites students to apply for a grant to prepare for
a Ph.D. in one of the following areas:

Logic, Computer Science, Philosophy of Language

ILLC's PhD students take part in the curriculum of the Dutch Graduate
School in Logic, which operates on a national scale. The research
should lead to the completion of a Ph.D.-Thesis. Applicants
should have completed an* MA in Mathematics, Philosophy,
Computer Science, Cognitive Science or other relevant area.

 CENTRO DE LINGUISTICA APLICADA, SANTIAGO DE CUBA
 22-24 DE ENERO DE 1997
El Centro de Linguistica Aplicada del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnologia y
Medio Ambiente en Santiago de Cuba, la Asociacion de Linguistas de Cuba, la
Universidad de Oriente y el Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas, convocan
al V Simposio Internacional de Comunicacion Social que se celebrara en esta
ciudad del 22 al 24 de enero de 1997. En este evento de caracter internacional
se propiciara el analisis cientifico y la discusion en varias disciplinas como
Linguistica Aplicada, Linguistica Computacional, Medicina, Procesamiento de
Voz, asi como en temas referidos a los Medios masivos de difusion y Etnologia
y Folklore relacionados con la Comunicacion Social.
Se aceptaran ponencias en las tematicas siguientes:

 - Fonetica y Fonologia, Lexicologia y Lexicografia, Morfosintaxis
 - Sociolinguistica

2. Linguistica Computacional
 - Softwares vinculados a investigaciones linguisticas
 - Diccionarios automatizados
 - Sistemas computarizados relacionados con la ensenanza de la lengua
 materna y de lenguas extranjeras
 - Otros temas afines
3. Procesamiento de Voz
 - Investigaciones relacionadas con el "Cry Analysis"
 - Aplicaciones del Analisis, Sintesis y Reconocimiento de Voz
 - Equipos y dispositivos que puedan ser aplicados a los analisis acus-
 ticos y en la ayuda a discapacitados (impedidos auditivos)
 - Inteligencia Artificial vinculada al procesamiento de voz
4. Especialidades medicas vinculadas al habla y la voz y en general, con la
 Comunicacion Social
 - Logopedia y Foniatria, Neurologia, Otorrinolaringologia, Estomatolo-
 gia, Psiquiatria Infantil, Pediatria
 - Investigaciones relacionadas con el "Cry Analysis" para ayudar en el
 diagnostico de enfermedades del Sistema Nervioso Central
5. Medios masivos de difusion
 - Investigaciones linguisticas relacionadas con el habla de los locuto-
 res de radio y television
 - Analisis textuales de programas radiales y televisivos asi como de
 articulos de la prensa escrita
6. Etnologia y Folklore
 - Estudios de esta especialidad relacionados con la Comunicacion Social
Talleres
Se efectuaran los talleres siguientes:
- Lexicologia y Lexicografia. Elaboracion de Diccionarios
- Cry Analysis
Las actividades que se realizaran en el Simposio seran las siguientes:
- Discusion de ponencias en comisiones

The task of the "bibliography operation" of the URA 1164 is to make an inventory
of sociolinguistic publications in *french language* since 1985.
There are a number of downloadable files (in MS-Word format) and
