Daimler Benz Research is currently seeking one research scientist to join the group "Text Understanding Systems" in Ulm, Germany, preferably in November 1996. The successful candidate will work on a project on `information filtering from electronic texts'. The duties of the position include applied research but also software development. Our research group has a long time experience in statistical pattern recognition, knowledge based document analysis, and information extraction. The aim of information filtering is to select and rank relevant texts of large text collections according to the requirement of users and to forward these texts to the users. Personal filter should be automatic adaptable to the user's needs. Applicants should be familiar with search processes in electronic nets and experienced in research in information retrieval, text categorization, and user modelling. Linguistic competence (German and English) and the skill to realize new concepts are required. Knowledge of the architecture of search engines and familiarity with hyper text representations are highly desirable. The project will start in January 1997 and last 3 years.
