Panel: A panel is being organized for the 6th International Pragmatics Conference to be held on 19 - 24 July 1998 in Reims, France. The panel is entitled "Telephone Calls: Unity and Diversity of Conversational Structure Across Languages and Cultures". Aim: The aim of this panel is to bring together researchers working on telephone calls in different societies using conversational data from different languages to present their findings, to compare and contrast them with those of researchers working on other languages and in different cultures, and to discuss any similarities and differences. Papers adopting a comparative perspective are especially welcome. Anyone interested in offering a paper to this panel is invited to write to either of the organizers, to whom queries about further details of the conference can also be addressed. Panel Organizers: 1. Theodossia-Soula Pavlidou, Department of Linguistics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
