*** Research Position at Motorola Corporate Research Laboratories *** Motorola, Inc. has an opening for an individual to research and develop spoken language systems at the Motorola Corporate Research Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. This researcher will be a member of an interdisciplinary team exploring the integration of Natural Language Processing, speech recognition, and speech synthesis for product applications of man-machine communications. The duties of the position include applied research, software development, and implementation of principles of natural language processing in working systems. Innovation in research and applications of technology is the standard for all members of the team. Strong programming skills and an in-depth understanding of natural language processing are required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in any or all of the following: C++, object oriented programming, spoken language understanding systems, dialogue modeling, spoken language generation, and linguistic development tools. A Ph.D. in computational linguistics, computer science, or related field is preferred. Strong Masters candidates will also be considered. The search will continue until the position is filled, but first consideration will be given to resumes received by October 31, 1997. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Linguistics The Ph.D./M.A. Program in Linguistics at The Graduate School and University Center of The City University of New York invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position, starting September 1, 1998. The Graduate School and University Center, located in midtown Manhattan, is part of The City University of New York, the nation's largest public urban university. Over 4000 students are enrolled in 32 doctoral programs and 7 master's programs. The Ph.D./M.A. Program in Linguistics, with a high national ranking, seeks a syntactician who will be an active member of a research community with diverse interests. Candidates should have a record of significant research and publications in syntax and experience working with doctoral students. Responsibilities include teaching graduate-level courses at the CUNY Graduate Center. REQUIRED: Ph.D. at the time of appointment, plus a record of success in teaching, research, publication, and advisement of doctoral students. Rank is open, depending on qualifications.
