SODALIZIO GLOTTOLOGICO MILANESE ISTITUTO DI GLOTTOLOGIA UNIVERSITA' DEGLI STUDI VIA FESTA DEL PERDONO 7, 20122 MILANO Milan, November1997 F I R S T C I R C U L A R Dear Colleague, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its foundation - December 18th 1947 - and of the centenary of Vittore Pisani's birth - February 23rd 1899 -, the "Sodalizio Glottologico Milanese", with the support of the "Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere", and of the Catholic and the State Universities of Milan, is organizing, sticking to its well-established tradition, the IX Intern ational Congress of Linguists, which will be held in Milan on October 8th- 9th- 10th 1998. The topic will be: 50 YEARS OF LINGUISTIC RESEARCHES: ITS PROBLEMS, RESULTS, AND PROSPECTS FOR THE THIRD MILLENIUM. There will be five official reports and other shorter speeches. The application fee - refundable as subsistence money - can be paid at the opening of the Congress. In the 2nd circular the subjects of the official reports, and possible hotel accomodations will be given. A reply, informing us whether you intend to participate to the Congress, and whether you want to give a speech on the above-mentioned topic, will be greatly appreciated. The board of directors of the "Sodalizio Glottologico Milanese" will consider the proposals you will send. The theme for this conference is on agreement. Papers on the theme will be given preference, although those on other topics are also welcome. Abstracts of no longer than two type-written pages should be received by IsCLL6 organizing committee no later than December 31, 1997. Additional pages for data and references can also be included. Please include the title and the subfield of your paper, along with your name, affiliation, and mailing address on a separate page. Letters of acceptance will be sent out on February 25, 1998. A full paper of no longer than twenty typed camera-ready pages should reach the IsCLL6 organizing committee by May 10, 1998. The full papers received on or before that date will be included in the Proceedings of the conference. Original papers written exclusively for IsCLL6 are expected. The authors should be prepared to indicate this commitment when the abstract is accepted. Travel expenses for authors may be available pending approval.
