Subject: language situation in Israel

I am writing my thesis on the influence of the Hebrew language revival
in Israel. Did the revival, which gave a dispersed people one
language, really help to reunite the Jews of the Diaspora like the
Zionists wanted, or is there still too big an internal difference.
All information on still existing community languages in Israel,
social markers of speech in Israeli Hebrew, attitudes towards the
different languages in Israel, different types of bilingualism in
Israel, ideology of the dominant culture, or other related topics are
very welcome.

Subject: neurolinguistics

I am a graduate student of Cognitive Science at METU, Ankara-Turkey.
I urgently need F.C.C. Peng's article "What is neurolinguistics?"
(from Journal of Neurolinguistics 1,1985; pp 7-30). Could anyone who
has this article (or anything related to that one) forward it to my
e-mail address? Thanks in advance.

Message 3: Index of Languages

From: Victor Raskin <raskinomni.cc.purdue.edu>
Subject: Index of Languages

I have been off the list for a while, so I apologize if this has been
mentioned recently (the database search function does not seem to work
either at this or old location).

A former Ph.D. student asked me if there was in existence a
political-administrative index of languages, such that, for instance,
for each country of the world, it listed every language spoken
there. I have never run into anything like that, even though I know of
similar or even better sources (e.g., with the descriptions of such
languages) for certain areas of the world, such as the XSU.

Any information and/or informed guesses will be appreciated.

From: Maria Wolters <mwoasl1.ikp.uni-bonn.de>
Subject: Announcements of marriages in newspapers

On behalf of two fellow students, I'm asking: Are there any papers on
announcements marriages in newspapers, preferably written from a text
linguistic point of view?

A summary of the answers will of course be posted to the list.

Thank you very much,

Maria Wolters
