hrz.uni-kassel.de>****************************************************************** Reminder CALL FOR PAPERS Reminder ****************************************************************** 32nd Colloquium of Linguistics All Fields of Linguistics September 17-19, 1997 University of Kassel Germany Call for Papers We cordially invite you to participate in the 32nd Colloquium of Linguistics, which will take place at the University of Kassel from Wednesday, September 17 to Friday, September 19, 1997. Continuing the tradition of the colloquium there will be no restrictions regarding the choice of topics. The papers should be given in German, English, or French, and should not exceed 20 minutes. Combined with an ensuing discussion of about 10 minutes one lecture unit as a whole will cover 30 minutes. If the number of papers offered is beyond the scope of the colloquium, the programme committee reserves the right to choose the best papers on the basis of the abstracts. Conference Fee The conference fee is DM 85,00. The sum includes the registration fee and will, among other things, cover pre-conference materials, tea and coffee, and the reception on Wednesday evening. It will not, however, cover lunches and accommodation. Social Programme We are very happy to be in the position to offer you as a supporting act a guided tour of the international art exhibition documenta X, which is the most famous exhibition of contemporary art. On Thursday, September 18, 1997 there will be the opportunity to visit documenta X in a guided group (German or English). The admission charge for this will be DM 30,00 per person. agora.ulaval.ca>COURSES AND CONFERENCES Fourth International Conference of the Association for Language Awareness , June 24 - 27, 1998. Cegep de Sainte-Foy, (Quebec) in collaboration with the Centre de recherche international sur l'amenagement linguistique (CIRAL/Universite Laval) will be hosting the Fourth International Conference of the Association for Language Awareness, June 24 - 27, 1998. The role of the ALA is to encourage activities in the area of Language Awareness. It seeks to achieve this by collecting, disseminating and exchanging information on Language Awareness initiatives, by promoting research into Language Awareness, and by arranging conferences and meetings for practitioners and theorists in all spheres of education, as well as for others with interests in Language Awareness. There will be plenary and section papers as well as practical workshops. We anticipate papers falling into the areas of the role of explicit knowledge about language in the process of language learning and teaching, the role of explicit knowledge about language in language use : ex. sensitivity to bias in language, manipulative aspects of language, literary use of language, etc., different fields of Language Awareness (ex. mother tongue learning, second/foreign language teaching and learning, teacher education), different levels of Language Awareness (ex. primary, secondary and post-secondary; adult education; professional career development training), different domains of Language Awareness (performance, affective, analytical, social, etc), as well as evaluation for Language Awareness in all of these. A maximum of 40 papers will be accepted for this event, each lasting 25 minutes and 15 minutes for discussion in parallel sessions. The standard equipment (OHP, chalkboard) will be available and video or computer on request. Papers for delivery by proxy cannot be accepted. A selection of papers from the conference will be published in a special issue of the journal Language Awareness. Proposals for individual papers or workshops should be no longer than 500 words and are to be submitted to the address below. Papers with a research focus, whether in progress or completed, will be given preference. Please send three copies of the abstract as well as a copy on disk. (3.5" Macintosh WORD 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0 or IBM-compatible WP 5.1 or WORD 6 Windows). The hard-copy version should be double-spaced, with a separate sheet giving the author's name, address, institutional affiliations (if any), phone numbers, e-mail address and title of individual paper.
