Kronning, Hans (1996) _Modalite, Cognition et polysemie: semantique du
verbe modal devoir)_ Sudia Romanica Upsaliensia 54. Acta Universitatis

This monograph deals with the semantics of the French modal verb 'devoir'
in a predominantly cognitive perspective. It is shown that the semantic space
associated with this modal is best analysed as polysemous. The homonymous
and monosemous analyses of verbs of this type are rejected.
