Abstracts are being accepted for a panel to be submitted to the Association for Asian Studies, on "Local Language in Local Chinese Culture" to be held at the AAS annual meeting in Wash. DC, 26-29 March, 1998. Preference will be given to papers presenting concrete descriptive material from specific parts of China, but without sacrificing accessibility to a non-specialist audience. The goal of this panel is to investigate the regional texture and colloquial color of the weave that makes up that broad fabric called the Chinese language. All presentations must be given in English, and conform to the usual AAS specifications. Please send abstracts of not more than 250 words to David Prager Branner or Richard VanNess Simmons <yuen.ren.societyMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issuebigfoot.com> <rsimmon
