Dear Subscribers:

Yesterday we posted a message asking for volunteers to join a special
LINGUIST group which would answer questions posed by the general
public. We expected only a few to replies; instead, we've had dozens
of responses, and now have more than enough people for this new
service. 

So we're now closing our request for volunteers, though in the future,
as people leave the group, we'll surely be asking for replacements.

We should say that the extraordinary response from linguists to this
call is really heartening to us. We all feel that it's very important
that we as linguists try to make the public aware of what our
discipline has to offer; and this is one small way of doing that.
