Many thanks to Robert Ratcliffe Bob Hoberman Wayles Brown Waruno Mahdi Ron Artstein for giving me the translations of the mystery words. Turns out they are indeed Arabic words--names of months. In fact, if I had known a fact about Arabic dialectology, namely that [z] corresponds with [dh] (edh) I could have found both of them in my little Webster's desk dictionary. For those interested in the Moslem calendar, more information can be found at <http://shell.ihug.co.nz/~hermetic/cal_stud/grol.htm> <http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~tawfig/convert/introduction.html> < http://www.pointpub.com/kampungnet/calendar.html> Thanks to all who have made a poet in our English department very happy.
