		West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics

			 April 8-11, 1999

			 CALL FOR PAPERS

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks in all areas of formal linguistics 
from any theoretical perspective. In addition to regular talks, there will 
be a poster session. Pending approval of funding, WCCFL 18 will also include 
three special sessions with invited panelists. Abstracts may only be 
submitted for the main session or poster session.

SPECIAL SESSIONS
(pending approval of funding, the following special sessions with 
invited panels are tentatively planned)
1. Derivations vs. Constraints -- 
	INVITED DISCUSSANTS INCLUDE Morris Halle, William Idsardi, 
	David Pesetsky, Norvin Richards, Paul Kiparsky, Stephen Anderson, 
	Angele Friederici, William Marslen-Wilson, and selected University 
	of Arizona Faculty
2. Formal basis and acquisition of Syntactic Categories -- 
	INVITED DISCUSSANTS INCLUDE: Elissa Newport, Virginia Valian, 
	Lila Gleitman, and selected University of Arizona Faculty
3. The Importance of the Study of Native American Languages to Linguistic 
	Theory: The Contributions of Ken Hale -- 
	INVITED DISCUSSANTS INCLUDE: Judith Aissen, Theodore Fernald, 
	Lynn Nichols, Leslie Saxon, Carlota Smith, Ken Hale, and 
	selected University of Arizona Faculty


ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS

Abstracts should be no more than one standard size page in length with 
the option of including an additional page for data and references. 
Abstracts should be in at least 11-point type with 1-inch margins, 
single-spaced. Please mail eleven anonymous copies as well as a 3" x 5" 
index card with the following information:

	title				area (phonology, syntax, semantics...)
	name of author(s)		contact phone number 
	mailing address			contact e-mail address 
	affiliation(s)			indicate main session, 
						poster session or both
	
(Please be sure to indicate if you want to be considered for the main 
session only, the poster session only, or both.) Submissions are limited 
to 1 individual and 1 joint abstract per author. Please do not send
abstracts by e-mail. Abstract submission guidelines & deadline will 
be strictly enforced.

ABSTRACTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY DECEMBER 1, 1998
