In Memoriam: Delma Letticia Galindo Last Saturday (October 17, 1998), Letticia Galindo passed away. An associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of Languages and Literatures at ASU, she had been battling cancer for some time but nevertheless continued teaching until a few weeks ago. She will be very much missed for her personal warmth and passion about her work and students, as well as for her professional expertise in bilingualism, Spanish in the South West and second language acquisition. Letticia received her PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and came to ASU in 1990. She published many articles, was a reviewer for Journal of Sociolinguistics and for Southwest Journal of Linguistics, and had just finished co-editing (with Maria Dolores Gonzales) Chicanas and Language: Reconstruction, Reflection and Innovation (in print 1999). She was involved in the National Association of Chicana/Chicano Studies and received many grants and awards, among them an award honoring her for contributing to the quality of life for students at ASU. We will miss her. May she rest in peace.
