7th International Pragmatics Conference, early July 2000, Budapest, Hungary Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee: Frenc Kiefer, IPrA President and Director of the Linguistic Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Special Theme: Cognition in Language Use: The role of perception and representation, memory and planning, and metalinguistic awareness. As usual, the conference will be open to all other topics relevant to the field of pragmatics conceived broadly as a functional - i.e. cognitive, social, and cultural - perspective on language and language use. There will be plenary lectures (some on the special theme, others on topics of wider interest), parallel lecture sessions (on topics related to the special theme), poster sessions (on topics outside of the special theme area), and panels (which may be on any topic relevant to pragmatics). Letters of intent for the organization of panels may already be sent to the IPrA Secretariat. A full call for papers will be distributed in January/February 1999. The anticipated deadline for abstracts is 1 November 1999.
