I am working on a paper relating to bilingualism and speech production. I have set out to explore the effect of the dominant language on the weaker language as seen in spontaneous speech production. I have a body of transcribed materials which I am currently analyzing and intend to compare the different types of "errors" (syntactic, semantic, lexical, etc.) as a percent of the total utterances produced. In this way I will be able to see development over a period of time, and be able to compare data between informants. So, what I really need is a working definition of "utterance" or if you like "sentence" appropriate for the analysis of spoken language. If you can help me on this but need more information, don`t hesitate to contact me. Nick KetleyMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
