Assistant Professor or Visiting Assistant Professor in Spanish Sociolinguistics The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures seeks to hire an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Visiting Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) in Spanish sociolinguistics, to begin Fall 1999. Any of the following subspecializations would be desirable: language contact, bilingualism, dialectology, Spanish in the U.S. Responsibilities include teaching courses in Spanish sociolinguistics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels (three courses per year in Spanish; one per year in the Linguistics Program), supervising graduate students, and coordination of the second-year language program in Spanish (20 sections per year). Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment (8/6/99) preferred, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English, demonstrated excellence in teaching, strong record/potential for research, active commitment to program development and service. Experience in coordination a plus. Applicants who are advanced in their careers may be eligible to be hired as a senior Assistant Professor, i.e., with some years' credit toward tenure. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
