Dear Linguists, Traditionally, the point is that anything below the level of catogories is just a bag of features. It seems that it does not matter whether these features can be organized linearly or hierarchically. My proposal is that at least formal features of categories can be organized hierarchically so that they can be mapped to the syntactic structure in which the categories might occupy. Would anybody who shares the same view with me please write to me to further this advocation? Also in constructing such a hierarchy, I find that I have to make a hypothesis that one parameter can be made within another one (e.g. one feature within another feature). Can this P-within-P sound? I need your suggestions or references to complete this idea. Thank you all for your attention. Ressy AiMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
Dear All: Can someone please tell me the email or mail address of John Taylor, the author of Linguistic Categorization: Prototype in Linguistic Theory? Some of my colleagues and students and I want to translate the book to Mandarin, and need to get the permission of the author. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! I am interested in a Bachelor's degree in linguistics, maybe with a minor in Russian. Is there a university or college that offers such a thing via distance learning/correspondence? I live near a junior college where I could take freshman and sophomore generic classes, if needed. I've looked around some, including through most of the list of institutions listed on the LINGUIST list web site, but haven't found any programs that are offered via correspondence. Thanks, Basil Arrick basilMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issuehomestead.org Basil (Darin) Arrick P.O. Box 820054 North Richland Hills, TX 76182
