I am doing an extensive research on textbooks used for teaching Spanish in
French-speaking universities. I would appreciate a lot, if you can provide

Subject: Which spelling is best...y'all -or- ya'll?

I have recently been taken to task with my use of "y'all"
but not singular vs. plural. My friend says the correct
way is "ya'll in the south. 
We both live in and grew up in Florida.
Perhaps the problem is she grew up in Jacksonville, me in Tallahassee.
