SYNTACTIC THEORY The Linguistics Department at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning 1 August 1998, or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications; the 1997-98 salary range for the position is $40,868 - $48,000. Teaching duties, MA/PhD supervision and research program will be concentrated in, but not limited to, the core areas of syntactic theory and syntactic analysis. The completed doctoral degree, an active research program, and in-depth field experience with a poorly-documented language are required. Expertise in the field of Semantics and/or the biological foundations of language would be an asset. UNIVERSITY OF SURREY Foundation Lectureship in Linguistics and Russian Language in the Surrey Morphology Group Funded through income from the University's Foundation Fund, this post will offer an outstanding scholar the opportunity to concentrate initially on research. The successful applicant will contribute substantially to the Surrey Morphology Group, which was flagged at the last Research Assessment Exercise. Expertise in morphological theory, DATR and typology is highly desirable. The ability to teach Russian language is essential. Salary will be on the lecturer scale 16,045-27,985 pounds sterling per annum.
